Everything Old is New Again
Bethany is the one who helps you figure out how to get it done. In all things she’s a planner, but more than that she’s an actor, and manages more than anyone I know to lay out a path and then make it happen. And she’s not stingy with it.
Bethany helps people she knows work through their own decisions and plans and routinely helps most of us out of “stuckness”. I’d venture to say that every job Bethany has had involves her telling other people how to get it done, how to do if efficiently, and how to do it correctly. She’s my favorite person to dream with because I feel like if it’s not pie in the sky and Bethany senses the dream is a real one, she’ll help me find a way to do it.
Bethany cares deeply. Many people who meet Bethany would probably not have any clue, thanks to her hard candy shell, that she’s a softie inside. She has a great amount of empathy and constantly wants to improve people around her. Be it through her job and government service where she’s worked tirelessly to help people and help our system work better, to her love of and action in support of rescue animals, to the way she interacts with her friends by always being a cheerleader, voice of support, or partner in crime.
Bethany is a defined character. She knows who she is, how she wants to come across to others, how she wants to do things. She makes deliberate decisions and takes predictable actions, but manages to not be boring, despite the predictability. One of my favorite things about Bethany is how well rounded she is. A writer would love to take Bethany and transplant her into a story because of how many dimensions she has—tough broad with a heart of gold, beautiful, graceful, vintage in almost everything she does, an air of sophistication built in with a soul that will get down and dirty with the best of them, passionate about causes, intelligent, aloof to some, wide open to others, fixed in her ways yet also somehow open to ideas. This is what makes Bethany so much fun to be around. I’m always learning something new and even in doing the same thing over and over again, it manages to be a different experience.

'Let's Go!'
Bethany is a kind, compassionate person who doesn't take crap from anyone. She can be strong and silent or goofy and over the top. She is creative and artistic and boy does she like to put on a show!
Bethany also has a great sense of adventure. We used to love to go for long walks in the woods just to see where we would end up. I can't believe our parents let us do that. Truth be told they probably didn't know. Okay, so let's add ‘Bethany is sneaky’ to that list!
Bethany is probably the best friend I ever had and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way about her.

Be All that You can Be
Bethany. Does. Not. Suffer. Fools.
Bethany can wither high ranking government officials with a tilted head and one minutely raised eyebrow.
Bethany's the woman that breaks it to the crowd that the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes.
Bethany believes in process, roles, structure, and government. She believes that people should shut up and
DO THEIR JOBS -- yes, even volunteers.
Bethany is very, very tough on my friend Bethany. ; )
Bethany is someone you want to introduce your young daughters to so that their own mental picture of what a grown woman can be exceeds all limits and stereotypes and they happily set the bar higher.

Through the Years
Bethany as a teenager--quiet, opinionated, a great friend, a lifesaver, the one with a brain in her head. The sensible one. Demanding of herself and others, the best friend anyone could ever hope to have. I truly mean lifesaver.
Bethany as a young adult--20's --still the bestest friend anyone could have, hysterical one liners, sarcastically nice, starting to loosen up and not be so uptight, more self assured, doesn't have the weight of the world on her shoulders anymore.
Bethany as an adult--30's --extremely opinionated and 99% right, starting to soften around the edges a bit, starting to see that the world has lots more to offer, nicer now than ever before and I miss her greatly. Still the bestest but not often heard from friend. Unlikely to put up with others bull crap/excuses.
Bethany as a middle age old woman [What?! Edited out for obvious reasons!]
Got your back kinda person -- even if you’re wrong.

Life of Illusion
The first time I saw Bethany was from the audience during Hexagon 2000. Her Chelsea Clinton was enough to make men contemplate marriage - usually the one they already had.
Bethany's stagecraft is a metaphor for her approach to life. She makes everything she does look easy, but this belies the hard work, discipline, focus, determination, loyalty and compassion that go into everything she does. Her talent and drive can be intimidating at first, but her friends will tell you she's one of the best fun people you could ever hang out with.

Thelma & Louise
Bethany is a very compassionate person who would do anything in the world for you. I remember first meeting her and thinking "she's a tough nut to crack". But as I got to know her, she's become a Dear friend who shares in my joy of jazz, of antiquing in the VA countryside, wine tasting, compassion for animals, for doing all things girlie and especially having a french martini or two to discuss all the decorating and renovations of Victorian houses that we can possibly come up with!
She's a person I'm glad to call 'Thelma' to my 'Louise‘.
